Chevrolet has just revealed the perfect holiday gift for the C8 Corvette buyer who has everything. The two latest parts in the Chevrolet Performance catalog let owners add a strut tower brace that's fancier than the stock part and replace the original engine cover struts with something that's ready for the next Cars and Coffee.
The new brackets, which Chevy calls "hatch strut braces," are the more surprising of the two parts. Some designers and engineers at GM have clearly gone to great lengths to create these. They're wonderfully intricate and incorporate the Corvette's cross flags logo into the design.
They're parts that would look great on a bookshelf or mantle display, let alone under the engine cover of a car, but therein lies the strangeness. These are parts that almost nobody will ever see. When you're driving or parked, they're hidden under the engine cover. All they do is give the struts that support the engine cover hatch something to bolt on to. They're only visible when the engine cover is open.
As if the 1,064-hp ZR1 wasn't wild enough, the Bowtie brand is already writing the next chapter in the C8's history.

Chevy wants $1,995 for the pair of braces, which also come with new bolts. The claim is that the new aluminum parts add a "show-quality, distinctive appearance to your engine compartment." If you think this is the strangest add-on part for the C8, we have an even bigger surprise for you: Chevrolet isn't the first to make these. There are already at least half a dozen companies making their own replacement strut braces with various designs and finishes. None, though, are as eye-catching as the Chevrolet Performance part. They are cheaper, though.
Chevy's second surprise makes a lot more sense but is no less cool to look at. The new engine cross brace links the four corners of the engine bay with an X-shape made of visible carbon fiber. Even better, it gets the Corvette Racing Jake skull logo big and bold in the center of the brace.
The Chevrolet C8 ZR1 has a 233 mph top speed. Here are 10 supercars and hypercars that are slower.
This $2,995 add-on is more than just cosmetic. Chevrolet Performance says that it increases chassis lateral stiffness up to 3.4 percent and "contributes to a more direct steering response." The brace fits on cars with both the standard Stingray's 6.2-liter V8 and the Z06 with its 5.5-liter DOHC LT6.
Chevrolet's C8 Corvette is already the flashiest Corvette that the company has ever built. But if you need to give yours that extra bit of flash and panache, it'll look great on your build board the next time you roll into a car show.
