BigRep launches DRYCON industrial filament dryer

Oct 14, 2024

BigRep, a global leader in large-format additive manufacturing, has launched its latest product, the DRYCON. This machine is the only one of its kind with a dual-chamber capacity that simultaneously dries, stores, and anneals filaments – delivering superior filament care and, as a result, high-quality parts.

Designed to maximize filament performance, the DRYCON is ideal for technical, flexible, and high-temperature materials. It features a large build volume, with dual chambers capable of drying and storing up to 36 kg of filaments under custom conditions. Each chamber can heat up to 180°C – making it well-suited for annealing 3D printed parts to achieve industrial-grade strength.

The DRYCON ensures that hygroscopic filaments perform at their best by creating optimal conditions that enhance print quality, minimize extrusion problems, and improve the overall mechanical strength of parts. Users can achieve repeatable print quality and lower production costs by reducing print defects and failures.

In line with BigRep’s large format portfolio, both of the large DRYCON chambers measure 396 mm x 455 mm x 478 mm. The temperatures of the chambers can be customized independently to store filaments with different requirements, and its active air exchange system periodically cycles humid air with fresh air – ensuring optimal drying conditions while maintaining high energy efficiency.

Additionally, both chambers can anneal 3D prints by heating up to 180°C – enhancing properties such as strength, dimensional accuracy, and heat resistance. This process also improves the surface quality of prints by smoothing the top layer – giving them a professional-grade finish. The DRYCON’s four filament outlets streamline the AM process by feeding material directly into the 3D printer – eliminating the need for manual transfers and separate storage.

The DRYCON is designed to deliver consistent filament conditions for better and repeatable print quality, lower costs per part, and enhanced strength and durability of printed parts.
